Dr. Brian Gunnlaugson

Dr. Brian Gunnlaugson was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He went to the University of Manitoba and received two degrees, Bachelors of Medical Sciences and Bachelors of Medical Rehabilitation (Physical Therapy). He then moved to Newfoundland, Canada, to work as a physical therapist and continue his education. He attended medical school at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's and did a rotating internship at the same institution. He then did Residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He then worked in Canada for three years before moving to Johnstown, PA.

Dr. Gunnlaugson has been in practice in  Johnstown  since 1992 and has unrestricted Orthopedic Surgery privileges at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown and Windber Medical Center. 

Dr. Gunnlaugson is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and a Member of the Canadian Orthopedic Association. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and recently successfully completed a re-certification exam. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Cambria County Medical Society (President, 2007) and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Gunnlaugson has been in Johnstown for 13 years and has unrestricted Orthopedic Surgery privileges at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown and Windber Medical Center. 

Dr. Gunnlaugson does general Orthopedic Surgery, but approximately 50% of his practice is devoted to hip and knee arthoplasty. 

Dr. Gunnlaugson is married to Hazel and enjoys fishing, cooking, and reading. He also enjoys playing with his two "puppies" and rubbing their furry bellies!
